Current mental healthcare systems are unable to address the present and future needs. Africa's population is expected to double over the next three decades. Over 60% are under the age of 25. With 1.4 mental health workers per 100,000 people in Africa, compared with a global average of 9.0 per 100,000.
Many will experience mental health illnesses from increased life pressures, while poverty, limited awareness, and Stigmatization fear widen the treatment gap (the proportion of those in need who go untreated).
AHADI is a holistic digital mental health solution that addresses the pressing need for accessible and stigma-free mental health care and support. We connect Tanzanians with psychotherapists and tools to cultivate mental well-being. At AHADI, we empower Tanzanians with access to mental healthcare services they need, when and where they need them, without incurring social, cultural, geographical, and economic hardship.
Download NowNIA is a holistic healthcare platform, fostering Tanzanian's informed decisions for universal health coverage and equity.
Tanzania’s Universal health coverage remains low, at about 34 percent. As a result, the majority of the population, especially those in informal sectors, rely on the direct cash payment (out-of-pocket payment) system when they want to access health services, which in most cases imposes huge financial risks and exacerbates poverty. NIA is built to bridge this gap.
n 2018, we conducted a survey accessing factors that limit health insurance affordability among 150+ small to medium-sized entrepreneurs (informal sector) and the leading factor among this group was the all-at-once high costs that are associated with majority health insurance schemes. In 2020, we mobilized a small group of Tanzanians in informal sectors to explore effective ways to bridge this gap, and that is how our solution NIA came about.
